Apple Crisp

This is the apple crisp recipe that I won the church bake off with in high school. Not only was there none left I had people asking for the recipe for years after, finally here it is.

Ingredients
  

Filling

  • 8 c Apples (see note)
  • 3 TBSP small tapioca pearls MINUTE tapioca
  • 3 TBSP Lemon juice
  • 3/4 c Brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • ~ 1C of crasins

Topping

  • 1 C Flour
  • 1 C brown sugar
  • 1 C Oats
  • 1 stick butter +2-3TBSP

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350
  • Peel apples (optional but I prefer it),
    Cut apples in half then core and slice in to quarter inch planks. Add lemon juice, sugar, tapioca, and spices mix & let sit for ~5min.
  • Combine Flour, brown sugar, & oats then cut 1 stick of butter into the mixture.
  • Grease a 13×9 in pan with butter. Mix apple mixture and add to the pan. Top with crumble topping. Melt the remaining TBSPs of butter and drissel over the top.
  • bake for 30-45min until filling is bubbling and the topping is lightly browned.

Notes

A mix of 2 or 3 types is ideal. Granny Smith is a Must!! Pink Lady, Gala, Fuji and golden delicious are good choices.
