Hammer Rite – Side-by-side Translation
The purpose of a Hammer Rite is to establish that a given “space” is being used for ritual. Many modern pagans use some method of creating a sacred space. Casting a circle, calling the quarters, or invoking the elements, are common methods with roots in Wicca and other forms of witchcraft. While popular, some Heathens, don’t include a Hammer Rite in their ritual practice because there is no historic basis. Even without historic evidence it is a great way to delineate a sacred space, begin ritual and set the stage for the rest of the ritual. It is also a very easy practice to add or remove as feels appropriate to you.
