Burning Democracy – Fascist coup attempt in the US capital

This blog was never meant to be about current events or politics.

Yesterday, on January 6th, 2021, there was a coup attempted in Washington DC. Armed fascists invaded the US capital building, they forced lawmakers to retreat from the Senate chamber. Carrying Confederate flags they paraded down the halls of US democracy breaking into offices. The police were not overwhelmed; they let them in and even took selfies with these terrorists. Whatever the media says in the coming days this was not a protest, and the violent actions of the terrorists is not a surprise.

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser’s office stated: “Many persons came to the District armed and for the purpose of engaging in violence and destruction and have engaged in violence and destruction.”

Declaration 127

Among the insurgents were those who bore symbols of my faith. Most notably a man wearing a horned helmet and furs around his shoulders tattooed with Mjölnir and Yggdrasil.

This is NOT what Heathenry stands for.

There is no room for the vitriolic hate and racism that these fascist terrorists represent in my Heathenry. I am a supporter of Declaration 127, and I do not condone hatred or discrimination carried out under the guise of my religion.

My heart is aching for pain in my community.

For men and women of color who know and have been shown time and time again that their lives matter less to police and lawmakers. Black, and Indigenous people of color have been shot and beaten for existing; for daring to assert that their lives matter. Their safety should be protected rather than threatened by the police.

For veterans who fought for democracy and freedom overseas, and see it crumbling here. Women and men sacrificed years of time, endure physical pains and mental injuries to serve and fight for their country. This nightmare pretending at patriotism is NOT what they fought for.

For those like myself who see their faith twisted into a sign of hate. It hurts to see our gods profaned as supporters of this attack on our country. Heathens are not the only ones who must defend our symbols and faith from the use of racists and extremists. Christians and Muslims are constantly forced to defend their beliefs in light of violence committed by others in their god’s name.

This is far from over, its time to stand up if you haven’t already. I know where I stand.
