CW – Discussion of Trauma and symptoms
Dissociation is a mental and emotional state of being disconnected from your thoughts, feelings, memories, and/or surroundings.
It can affect your sense of identity and your perception of time. It is often a trauma response associated with PTSD and can be a symptom of other mental health concerns. When the body feels unsafe the mind distances itself to feel protected.
For me dissociation can come in the form of a fuzzy drunken feeling where my body and sensations it experiences seem far away and less important.
